 Dear Joanna(CEO of Surrey)

Hope all is well.

We are formally  writing asking the supervisors to be supervised, in the interim and request  the council or the appropriate department to examine  how c has been treated, spoken to, physically handled, supported or provided  appropriate positive educational attention. Consistent with his specific needs

Given the obvious trauma and extreme distress witnessed today at the school, we will pause for two days and will bring C to school on Monday next week.

This will give the school two school days and a weekend break to put measures in place to ensure C feels welcome, well, protected, reassured but most of all enjoys and wants to stay in school and learn. It will also allow him space to ascertain his well being and state of mind away from school-on-school days.

Today

After months of being extremely keen, this morning C again did not stay and appeared traumatised when we approached the school entrance. I put on two masks and went further inside with him where some toys had been placed.

Mrs Kurzberg was there. After crying and crouching on the sofa, I tried to persuade him.  I stepped outside and they closed the door, and I could hear him wailing.

I waited by the gate and parents told me he is crying and wanting to hold them to come out to take him to his dad. I could hear him metres away.

Around 9am, I heard him come closer to the main gate with several adults.

A male( Asian background) and three females(white).

I could hear the male say hold him. As they closed the gate he cried even louder and appeared to struggle to be set free from them. I looked and he appeared extremely distressed. This having on for almost half an hour in full view of other parents it was clear to me something is not right.

At that point he ran towards me again and I indicated that was enough that it was in his best interests given his traumatising state that we would leave for the day. I indicated to Mrs Kurzberg to return his fruits and water at the other entrance.

 Mrs Kurzberg

As she put these to an open-air table/bench she stated that he was just crying or words to that effect. I asked what had happened to turn him from a keen school loving kid to one that strongly detests, visibly and appears traumatised to even have any contact with his minders who appeared to me to act as bouncers rather than educators. Three to four adults surrounding a five-year-old speech delayed little boy who simply needs support, nurturing and re assurance to make him want to enjoy at school.

Mrs Kurzberg  in an exceedingly loud manner repeatedly denied even recognising such introspection in front of another parent as  I tried to maintain confidentiality and dignity of the C and the parent. It was yet another case of feeling that our voices are not only drowned but do so in  a manner that feels disrespectful and does not observe our human dignity again and again. It was or at least felt hostile again, which is becoming a modus operandi, from our perspective.

As other passer-by and by standers appeared to have observed. They commended me on how calm and diplomatic I am and that they could have been more assertive  under such circumstances.

Simply put what teacher/educator could rule out an examination of why a C who was very keen to attend school now feels visibly shaken whenever he approaches the school and does not want to leave my hand?

This requires a formal full examination of what is happening to him at school to trigger such a distressing and traumatising reaction.

Specifically:  As Freedom of information requests both to the school and surrey county council

Please provide a detailed information and details about the following points below

  • How C has been and continues to be physically handled at school?
  • Why  three adults needed to handle him, or hold him or surround him?
  • Why his teacher confiscated toys to which he is deeply psychologically attached for years?  The red bus etc and how long this has been going on?
  • What support or activity he did on Thursday and Friday last week between 830am and 1215pm?
  • Any other instances of a physical nature by adults towards c. When have they happened or why?
  • Why C has turned from a school loving c who was repeatedly locked outside the door into one traumatised by entering the school  or detests any school adults touching or being near him?
  • Could you please provide any explanation  or the extent to which race could be an alleged contributory factor?
  • Could you please explain the extent to which  the letter from the Governor around or on the 19th of June 2021 can be alleged or perceived to be an act of retaliation or victimisation contrary to the Equality act 2010, HRA 98 and ECHR

In short, we are formally in writing asking the supervisors to be supervised and request  the council or the appropriate department to examine  how c has been treated, spoken to, physically handled, supported or provided attention.

NB: We will resend shortly after, the relevant recommendations from the paediatrician
