FAO: Mrs Wrights and School Governors( headteacher and southcamberley respectively)

Dear Mrs Wrights and  School Governors of South Camberley

We are writing in relation to the growing concerns of how the lack of immediate appropriate support is detrimentally affecting C at school.

It seems that  the C is  not taught(or at least in comparison to his peers) or generally left to his own device to play with his red bus. As opposed to the provision of appropriate speech and language support, play therapist or educational psychologist or other needs.

This predictably is affecting him as we get constant negative reports on a regular basis.
What is also concerning is the increasing low expectation and in some cases almost deliberate triggers for him.

Today, i spoke to his teacher who stated that she refused him to take a red toy bus home which he returns the next morning. He also often brings  a red bus from home which he leaves at school.

He has a very strong attachment to his red bus  which he carries to bed, bath etc. Its a theraputical soothing due to his special needs.

The school was briefed about this repeatedly. It is understood that this triggered further severe upsets.

Its a major issue for him given that he is currently non verbal.

The teacher said she understood this and the psychological impact it has but its not clear why she would choose to deliberately trigger that.

Again whilst this may seem incosenquential it has a strong detrimental impact which can extend to how he reacts in the school. The teacher knows this very well.

This is not reference to a carte blanche to do what he wants. Ofcourse there must be boundaries for kids. But given the intimate psychological attachment to the red bus as theraputical instrument for a non verbal child, in a school environment, his one of very few respites, to be abruptly denied with the full context,is  arguably both ill thoughout and almost  a deliberate trigger.

On many, occasions he has been locked outside prior to 9am unlike other children.

Therefore, a combination of lack of support and what can be seen as insensitive at best towards a child with his needs, appears to be affecting him at school.

We raised this issue with Mrs Kurzberg yesterday, as to what immediate support  is in place to to avoid further detrimental impact.

It appears this has not been provided again. And C continues to be impacted negatively.

Instead this morning, Mr Jonny Franks was giving us a form for Surrey speech and language therapy, which appears to indicate their continuing arguably alleged unlawful refusal to provide support for C by the school, especially given the time it has taken.

We look forward to your response and immediate support for C.

For and on behalf of C
